The Nurse Fellow Initiative is unique and an Australian first in its inception and was internationally celebrated for the outcomes it achieved in paediatric oncology. We are pleased to have funded this fellowship, which had a tremendous impact on improving the care of children with cancer within the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide via the application of current research and knowledge to nursing practice and care.

The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne is a recipient of a grant from Kids Cancer Research Trust by virtue of a fundraising initiative conducted by Grant Gibson, which raised approximately $43,000. The total of the funds raised by Mr Gibson have been provided to theChildren's Cancer Research Laboratories unit for the project researching the role of Hox genes in acute myeloid leukaemia.

Long-standing inflammatino of the colon in Inflammagory Bowel Disease increases the risk of colon cancer in these patients. Several members of the S100 family of proteins are increased in both IBD and colonic carcinoma. The roles of these proteins in the development of cancer in the setting of long-standing gut inflammation have not yet been determined. These proteins may contribute to the development of cancer in the setting of long-standing inflammation of the bowel.
